Welcome to the world of designer Camille Templier, who talks about entrepreneurship, the history of her brand, her influences and of course, Paris.

Why did you embark on such an adventure?

To be free! I was literally obsessed with the desire to make a living out of my ideas and above all, to make my passion for sewing my profession.

How did you start creating?

After business school, I worked for 5 years in luxury marketing. At the same time, I loved creating and sewing my own clothes that I wore at the office during the week. As they met a certain success, the idea came naturally to me: have my creations made by seamstresses.
I first met Gisèle, a young retiree from the Lanvin workshops, and then others joined her. With them, I learned the job of model maker and stylist. The first collection in March 2012 was sold in a few weeks. The adventure really began at that point!

Now, who produces the collections?

Our seamstresses, the same ones from the beginning. To help them and meet the demand, I started working with Parisian workshops. We have a very artisanal production and a trusting relationship with each one of them.

Where do the fabrics come from?

I still hunt materials from the stocks of big houses. I have always fully embraced the idea of making limited editions and selling to my clients, clothes that they will not find on everyone. We also work a lot with monitored materials to avoid creating frustrations on best-sellers.

Why did you choose the online sales?

Making in Paris, with quality materials, is very expensive. But without intermediaries and without a physical shop, we control our costs as much as possible and this allows us to offer our creations at fair prices. We do not make sales and we only sell directly to our customers on our website.

Your difference?

We are a real e-maison de couture ! Our customers often write to us to let us know how happy they are receiving a piece of such quality. A garment passed through the hands of a seamstress does not have the same touch as a garment that comes out of a factory. It’s a different feeling, you can feel the work of the hand.

The style of the house?

Very feminine, always chic and timeless. I like the idea that a woman feels beautiful in my clothes and that each piece coming out of our workshops accompanies her in time and gives her self-confidence.

How does the idea of a creation come to you?

Each piece I create is a piece I want to wear. The spirit of the collections closely follows my style and my personal evolution. I am inspired by everything I see every day, I keep everything that catches my eye. And to organize my ideas, I walk a lot. In the Luxembourg garden for example or on the banks of the Seine. The beauty of Paris is simply inspiring.

Why did “L’Atelier de Camille” become “Atelier Camille”?

This is a small and natural evolution of my company. In 2011, I was working alone and from home. Today I have a team behind me and even if we remain a small human and artisanal brand, the little workshop has become a brand. Atelier Camille suits us better now.

Your motto?

“Choose a job you love and you won’t have to work a single day of your life,” by Confucius.

Your favorite color?

I have two: black and white, sometimes together, often separately. It’s chic and timeless, everything I love.

Paris and you?

It’s forever! I was born in Paris, grew up there and only left for my studies. To love my city even more, I leave her every weekend to rediscover the calm and green of the countryside. This is essential for me and my little family. And I only ride by bike during the day, it makes everything easier.

Birth of model

At Atelier Camille, all our clothes come from the same process. It all starts with a desire, an idea, a drawing by Camille. After a research work, Camille selects the fabrics and materials and makes her patronage by hand. One of the seamstresses then assembles the first prototype. This one is tried, then retouched, and the patronage is reworked until the garment is perfect.
Once the pattern has been validated in all sizes, the production of the model is entrusted to the seamstress or the Parisian workshop, depending on who is best able to make it. The choice is made according to the quantities, materials and finishes because everyone has their expertise.
Finally, all finished parts are checked, labelled and folded in our office in Paris in the 6th arrondissement. Each order is then shipped by us to you.
